"Embodied Ecologies" is a multiyear collaboration between the Interface Cultures master's program (University of Arts Linz), the Institute of Dance Arts (Anton Bruckner Private University) & Deep Space 8K Ars Electronica. This time, the students collaborated with IQOQI-Vienna, bringing together media arts and science.
Visual artists, programmers, sound engineers, dancers and physicists, collaborate in the context of this project to create an art performance (Homodyne) inspired by quantum physics and the physics of spacetime. The performance draws, among others, on research done by Nobel Prize winner Anton Zeilinger in the field of quantum mechanics. It explores how quantum entanglement and emergent properties of space and time affect the ontology of bodies in performance art.
The piece premiered on the 30th of June 2023 and will also be exhibited in September as part of the world renowned Ars Electronica Festival.
This work is developed by students in the workshop "DJ QUANTUM", led by transdisciplinary artist and researcher Smirna Kulenovic in collaboration with choreographer and dancer Damian Cortes-Alberti and costume designer Julia Moser. IQOQI-Vienna participants are Marios Christodoulou, who is co-teaching the course as well as Anton Zasedatelev, Victor Camarena and Ayub Khodaee, who have collaborated with the artists in order to visualise and sonify data from experiments with optically levitated nanoparticles.
