Monument Day 2025 at IQOQI Vienna

The historic building at Boltzmanngasse 3 in Vienna, was donated in 1908 by Karl Kupelwieser to the then Imperial Academy of Sciences to establish the Institute for Radium Research. Since 2003, it has been the place where Anton Zeilinger carried out his famous experiments, which culminated in the awarding of the Nobel Prize in 2022.

During this year’s Monument Day on September 28 (Tag des Denkmals), IQOQI Vienna welcomed the public into its historic research facility.

The program included an introduction to the institute and its members, a look back at its long history, and guided tours of the various laboratories. One of the main highlights for visitors on that day was the Hedy Lamarr Telescope on the building’s rooftop – named after the famous actress and inventor. The telescope also serves as a ground station, maintaining a quantum communication link with satellites orbiting the Earth.
