A new scientific debate on research funding practices: theoretical research without projects

In their article "Theoretical research without projects", IQOQI researchers Dr. Miguel Navascués and Dr. Costantino Budroni challenge the traditional approaches of research funding practices and open a scientific debate on the topic.

Given the drawbacks for theoretical science of funding schemes based on research projects, they propose to grant funds based on the recent scientific activity of the research group or person. Based on their mathematical model of the research system, they devise a number of research policies within this new paradigm which provenly steer the scientific community close to a situation of maximum scientific productivity.
