Bounding the set of correlations in sequential scenarios with SDP
    14.06.2019
Under the assumption on the dimension of communicated system we propose modification of the semi-definite-programming (SDP) hierarchy of Navascués-Vértesi [PRL 115 (2), 2015] that allows for approximation of the set of correlations in the considered scenarios. The variants of the scenarios that we consider include state preparation of one party and two subsequent measurements, three sequential measurements with time dependent operations and two channels followed by a ...

Two models for the theory of decoherence
    20.03.2024
to embrace a more general point of view, and try to answer the two following questions as universally as possible, i.e. without specifying any Hamiltonian: 1. What is the typical size of an environment needed to entail proper decoherence on a system? 2. Why is the universe not frozen by the quantum Zeno effect?

Semiconductor-based sources of single and highly-entangled photons
    27.06.2019
In this talk, we will focus on GaAs QDs in AlGaAs matrix [1,2], which show a unique combination of appealing features: fast radiative rates of ~5 GHz, capability of generating near perfectly entangled photon pairs [3] with good indistinguishability [4], ultralow multiphoton emission probability [5], high brightness [6], as well as a wavelength (~800 nm) suitable for free-space quantum communication and Silicon-based single-photon detectors. Some of these properties were ...

Towards understanding causality in fixed and indefinite space-times
    12.11.2019
matrix framework. However, modelling this assumption using measurements of local clocks to order these events could decohere the process being considered. To this effect, I will compare two frameworks for studying causality: the causal boxes framework [2] and the process matrix framework. The former assumes a fixed background space-time, while the latter does not, yet both can describe the quantum switch (QS) which is claimed to be an example of an indefinite causal order. ...

Can we see quantum correlations at the macroscopic scale?
    20.09.2021
mechanics to classical mechanics is the coarse-graining mechanism [2]: if measurements performed on macroscopic systems have limited resolution and cannot resolve individual microscopic particles, then the results behave classically. Such an argument, applied to (nonlocal) Bell correlations [3], leads to the principle of macroscopic locality [4]. Similarly, temporal quantum correlations reduce to classical correlations ( macroscopic realism) [2] and quantum contextuality ...

correct statistics of sequential measurements performed on a system at different times. Our proposal is based in Page and Wootters’ and on Aharonov and Kaufherr’s conditional probabilities mechanism. Invitation to a talk by Marko Vojinovic on Tuesday, November 7th 2017, 12:00h at the IQOQI Seminar Room
    07.11.2017
study the causal order of events in various background gravitational fields. The RQG model will then enable us to discuss situations where the causal order between two events is not uniquely defined. Probabilistic exact construction of decoders from encoding black boxes
    04.07.2022
D-dimensional system, we propose a universal isometry inversion protocol that constructs a decoder from multiple calls of the encoding operation. This is a probabilistic but exact protocol whose success probability is independent of D. For a qubit (d=2) encoded in n qubits, our protocol achieves an exponential improvement over any tomography-based or unitary-embedding method, which cannot avoid D-dependence. We also discover a fundamental difference between isometry ...

Anyonic information theory and quantum foundations
    12.01.2023
First, the theory of 2+1 D non-abelian anyons will be introduced. The newly discovered notion of anyonic creation operators will be presented, as well as their use as local elements of reality within the Deutsch-Hayden interpretation of quantum mechanics. The relationship between anyonic systems and quantum reference frames will be explored, concretely in the area of subsystem relativity. Lastly, I will present the strange properties of anyonic entanglement, such as the ...

Playing with Bob's toys to quantize gravity
    24.11.2022
We show that it can also be used to describe SU(2) representation theory at the basis of the spin-network representation of quantum states of space. We recall the definition of Yutsis diagrams, a standard graphical calculus used in quantum chemistry and quantum gravity, and we show how it embeds within Penrose's binor calculus. Then we show how we can explicitly diagrammatically calculate 3jm, 4jm and 6j symbols with ZX-calculus. It has long been thought that quantum gravity ...
