IQOQI Vienna at the Children's University 2025

Does perfect sharpness truly exist? How can we make sense of uncertainty in the quantum realm? Do quantum particles somehow communicate with one another? These are just a few of the intriguing questions our researchers explored with young minds during the Children’s University.

On July 18, the Austrian Academy of Sciences once again welcomed curious young minds for a day of inspiring lectures and hands-on workshops. Children set out on adventures ranging from hunting for Roman treasures to exploring the question of whether life exists beyond Earth.

IQOQI Vienna joined the program with the workshop “Quantum Uncertainty: Sharpness in the Quantum World.” Researchers Alois Mair and Stefan Lukas Ludescher revealed just how surprising—and downright strange—nature can be. The participants watched live experiments with light particles, discovering how these tiny quanta can become mysteriously connected. Each child went home equipped with simple tools to continue experimenting and exploring the quantum world on their own.
