Talk by ROBERT OECKL: The positive formalism - an example
This talk is aimed at illustrating the basic concepts as well as the concrete application of the positive formalism through the focus on a single paradigmatic example, a model of a black-hole to white-hole transition. Despite its simplicity, this model illustrates the shortcomings of the two traditional avenues to quantum gravity: the canonical approach as well as the covariant S-matrix approach. I will also spend time on explaining how the positive formalism generalizes the standard formulation of quantum theory and why this generalization is a necessity, illustrated precisely with the example at hand.
