This will include computability, uniqueness and the (alleged) incompatibility between general relativity and quantum field theory. I will outline the progress made on conceptual and technical problems, new insights on the roles of causal structure, diffeomorphism invariance and "emergence", and a roadmap to making contact with early-universe cosmology. Technicalities will be kept to a minimum, but can be provided on demand. [arXiv: 2501.17972, 2604.05641]
