About fluctuating systems with nonreciprocal interactions
    15.07.2024
only inflate, as in equilibrium criticality, but also develop an asymptotically increasing time-reversal asymmetry [2]. Second, we introduce nonreciprocal coupling in the XY model, where nonreciprocity can lead to the formation of true long-range order [3], but can also induce spatiotemporal chaos that can be regarded as a source of self-generated noise. Towards a test of the Quantum equivalence principle
    05.08.2021
etric setup that employs atomic clocks to observe a superposition of gravitational time dilations. I showed that this system can test some features of the quantum equivalence principle, employing the framework of spacetime quantum reference frames [2], namely quantum reference frames associated to particles that have both external and internal degrees of freedom. Finally, I will talk about how gravitational time dilation enhances some gravity-related measurements performed ...

T Paterek, J Kofler, R Prevedel, P Klimek, M Aspelmeyer, A Zeilinger and C Brukner Logical independence and quantum randomness Europhysik News Vol. 41 No. 2 (March-April 2010) Abstract: We propose a link between logical independence and quantum physics. We demonstrate that quantum systems in the eigenstates of Pauli group operators are capable of encoding mathematical axioms and show that Pauli group quantum measurements are capable of revealing whether or not a given ...

Invitation to a talk: Wolfgang Wieland

fact, the area of a two-dimensional cross section has a discrete spectrum, and no spin-networks or SU(2) variables are ever required for deriving this result. Finally, I present a proposal for how to formulate the dynamics for discretised gravity in terms of these variables as topological field theory on a system of internal null boundaries. Single phonon optomechanics with superfluid Helium: Precision tests of linearity in massive quantum systems
    23.11.2023
photon detectors to probe the motional states of a superfluid Helium-4 resonator of mass ~ 1 ng. The arrival times of Stokes and anti-Stokes photons (scattered by the resonator’s acoustic mode) are used to measure the resonator’s phonon coherences [2]. With the mechanical resonator initialized to a coherent state (displaced thermal state of mean phonon number ~ 40,000 and phonon number variance ~ 1), a sensitive precision measurement of its coherence allows us to bound such ...

Quantum Geometry, Observables and Symmetry-Resolved Entanglement
    27.03.2023
In this talk, I consider a simple model of quantum geometry - the quantum polyhedron - and show how SU(2) symmetry-resolved observables define diffeomorphism-invariant regions, together with a precise notion of geometric entanglement entropy. The model illustrates in a concrete way the interplay of symmetries, observables and entanglement.

Persistence and Reidentification in Systems of Identical Quantum Particles: Towards a Post-Atomistic Conception of Matter
    28.06.2023
require special mathematical treatment, and this only in the quantum mechanical (as opposed to classical mechanical) setting. Here, on the basis of a conceptual analysis of a recent mathematical reconstruction of the quantum symmetrization procedure [1, 2], I argue that the need for the symmetrization procedure originates in the confluence of identicality and the active nature of the quantum measurement process [3]. I propose a conception in which detection-events are ...
