Unlike its cousin quantum thermodynamics, quantum energetics focuses on systems whose fluctuations do not necessarily result from the coupling to thermal baths, but from any kind of quantum noise. This makes quantum energetics especially suited to assess the energy cost of quantum technologies, while shedding new light on still open problems of quantum physics such as Heisenberg’s cut and the measurement problem.
