Call for a postdoctoral position
The ideal starting date is Oct. 1, 2017, but there is some flexibility with the possibility of a later starting date.
The researcher will work with IQOQI junior group leader Markus Müller. This position is part of a project funded by the John Templeton Foundation involving an international consortium of groups pursuing research on Quantum Causal Structures. The consortium includes the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Canada, the University of Oxford, the University of Pavia, Hong Kong University, and the University of Queensland. The position will include opportunities to collaborate with other members of the consortium.
Questions that the project seeks to address include: does the structure of spacetime impose constraints on the probabilities of detector clicks? Does it constrain the possible correlations beyond no-signalling, or limit the order of interference in multi-slit experiments? If so, can this be used for applications in the "device-independent" paradigm of quantum information theory, or lead to more refined experimental tests of QM? Conversely, can we understand some aspects of spacetime physics as consequences of QM? Some of this research is in collaboration with colleagues in quantum gravity, for example with Dr. Philipp Hoehn (IQOQI Vienna).
The deadline for applications is Aug. 15, 2016. However, applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. The application should be sent to markus.mueller(at)oeaw.ac.at and should include:
- a letter of motivation (1 to 2 pages), explaining in particular the candidate’s reasons for participating in the project;
- a CV, including a list of publications;
- a copy of one selected publication;
- two letters of recommendation. The letters should directly be sent to the above email address by academic referees having worked with the candidate.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The final decision will be communicated by mid-September. Informal enquiries can be directed to markus.mueller(at)oeaw.ac.at.
